Vols' Wilcox not talking about Texas job

Tennessee defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox was vague Wednesday about whether or not he’s a candidate for the same position at Texas.

Wilcox, speaking to reporters for the first time since reports surfaced linking him to the Texas job, gave an initial statement and then declined to say much more about the situation.

“Here's the deal: I have a great job at Tennessee,” Wilcox said. “I have not been offered any other jobs. I'm not in discussions about any other jobs. I believe 100 percent in what we're doing here at Tennessee. I back coach (Derek) Dooley 100 percent in where this program is going.

"My sole focus, 100 percent along with all the other coaches, is getting ready for North Carolina. That's what I've spent my time doing and will continue to spend my time doing. So that's about it. We can talk about North Carolina."

He was asked specifically if he were a candidate at Texas, and Wilcox said, “I can’t really answer all that. I can’t get into hypotheticals.”

Wilcox also insisted that all the talk about his possibly going to Texas hasn’t been a distraction.

Wilcox earned $600,000 this season as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator. The Texas job could pay as much as $1 million or more.

I wish Wilcox the best, whether he stays or goes. Will be interesting to see who Dooley brings in if Wilcox leaves... Steele seems to be the name most mentioned.

you don't bring in a coach in waiting if you have a young coach who you want to buil the program, like tennessee does, you do it if you have a coach near retirement

Tenn is in a bad spot with this, Kiffin deal lost them the best defensive coach in the country no matter how many fans want to scream about third and Chavis. Man put more defensive players in the NFL than many of his peers starting out with higher ranked players. They say the coach in waiting thing is dead, but should Tenn get the opportunity to bring Chavis back, it would be live and kicking in Ktown. That type of move would signal the end of Dooley and UT has had enough change and the negative effects from that. As much as UT would love to have him back, only way he comes back is as the HC with a new AD. Hamilton has burnt so many bridges with those who kept him in a job it is not even funny

CFBTiger....Ha! That's a good one! Maybe he learned the "coach speak" from Kiffin.

Blues, I'm sure the right money would talk loudly......I'm just not convinced that he's currently the #1 choice in TX.

If he goes, TN should try to buy back Chavis before Florida gets to him.

"I'm not going to beg a guy to stay, because I got thousands of 'em right behind him waiting for their job," Dooley said. "And we don't depend on an assistant coach, just like one player doesn't make a program."

Note the 'assistant' as opposed to coordinator.

Tennessee fans, this is a good DC. You could lose him to Texas, if you don't fork out a lot more money.

I think CLow may be making inferences based on Dooley basically telling Wilcox he's a dime a dozen at a press conference. Hence the haiku.

How did Chris get THAT headline out of THAT article. I didn't read where it said THAT at all. It sounded more like a lesson in obfuscation, if you ask me.
